About Rick Kahler

Rick Kahler, Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) MS, ChFC, CCIM and President, Kahler Financial Group, launched his professional career selling and appraising real estate at age 18. In 1981, Rick founded Kahler Financial Group, and became South Dakota’s first fee-only financial planner in 1983. In 2009, Wealth Manager named Kahler Financial Group as the largest financial planning firm in a seven-state area. In 2009, BusinessWeek named him as one of the top 15 most experienced fee-only planners in the nation.

In 1998 Rick was appointed to the SD Investment Council. During his five-year term, Rick oversaw a $6 billion portfolio and was widely recognized for making exemplary strides in a time of unprecedented volatility in the world’s stock and credit-sensitive markets. In 2008, he joined Golden Gate University as a faculty member teaching their online course, The Psychology of Money.

Kahler is active in the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors, (NAPFA) and the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and has served in a variety of leadership roles including the Journal of Financial Planning Advisory Board and Chair of the 2004 National Retreat. In 2008, the FPA named Rick as a winner of the annual Frontiers Award. Kahler is also a Five Star quality listed advisor with the Paladin Registry, an independent advisor rating firm.

A pioneer in the evolution of integrating financial psychology with traditional financial planning profession, Rick is co-founder and co-facilitator of the five-day intensive Healing Money Issues Workshop offered by Onsite Workshops of Nashville, Tennessee, and the Financial Integration Residency Workshop for financial planning and counseling professionals. He is one of only a handful of planners nationwide who  offer financial coaching and counseling to his clients.

Kahler is a nationally known speaker and educator. His workshops and seminars draw some of the world’s wealthiest and most influential people. He is co-author of four revolutionary books: Conscious Finance (FoxCraft, Inc., 2005), The Financial Wisdom of Ebenezer Scrooge, (HCI, Inc., 2006/2008), Facilitating Financial Health (NUCO 2008), and Wired For Wealth, (HCI, Inc., 2009).   His work as the co-founder of Onsite Workshops "Healing Money Issues" workshop featured in Wynonna Judd's new book, Coming Home To Myself (New American Library, Sep 2005).
